The Purpose Diva’s Guide to Dating
7 Things Every Girl Should Know

All teens think about dating.  But most teens date with no idea how to do it. Without proper instruction, many youth risk “on the job training” with their hearts and bodies—expending a lot of emotion, time and energy and putting themselves at risk for pregnancy or sexually transmitted diseases.

Author and Purpose Diva, Leslie B. Denman, gives seven points to help teen and tween girls navigate through the emotions, temptations and pressures that are a normal part of dating.  Dating can be a fun part of a girl’s life if she is empowered with the right information and tools to do it in a healthy, confident and respectful way.  To live her life with purpose and be successful in dating, a diva has to: know why she wants to date; who she is—her values; where she is going in life; what she wants; what questions to ask; the risks, when and how to get out of a relationship.

This is more than just a guide, this is your personal coaching session with Coach Leslie so be prepared to read it, write in it, share it and most importantly act on it.

Young diva, if you are considering dating, but haven’t a clue how to do it—and want to be successful and avoid the drama of a bad relationship—keep reading; this book is for you!

3 Three Reasons Why You Should Order a Copy
for the Girl In Your Life

1. Studies found that dating violence is prevalent among tweens, adolescents between the ages of 11 and 14. (www.breakthecycle.org) The research found:

  • 1/2 of tweens have been or are in romantic relationships
  • 1/2 of teen girls with prior relationship experience report being victims of verbal, physical, or sexual abuse
  • 1 in 5 American tweens who have been in a relationship reported knowing a friend who had been struck in anger by a boyfriend or girlfriend
  • More than 1/2 of teens who had sex before the age of 14 experienced high rates of violence or abuse in relationships

2.  In 2009, around 410,000 teenage girls, ages 15 to 19, gave birth in the United States. That’s a 37 percent decrease from the teen birth rate in1991. Then, 61.8 births per every 1,000 females was a teen pregnancy. The rate has now dropped to 39.1 births per 1,000 women. Yet according to the United Nations, the rate of teen pregnancy in the United States is nearly nine times higher than in the majority of other developed nations. (CNN – April 5, 2011)

3.  The survey, “Liz Claiborne Inc.’s Love Is Not Abuse 2011 College Dating Violence and Abuse Poll,” was conducted by Knowledge Networks to address the lack of data on dating violence and abuse among college students. Knowledge Networks interviewed 508 college students including 330 women and 178 men for the study.

According to the findings, a significant number of college women are victims of dating violence.

  • 43% of dating college women report experiencing abusive dating behaviors including physical, sexual, tech, verbal or controlling abuse.
  • Nearly 1 in 3 (29%) college women say they have been in an abusive dating relationship.
  • More than half (57%) of college students who report experiencing dating violence said it occurred in college.
